 The Cost Accountant will be responsible for directing the implementation of cost accounting methods and activities. The position will create and maintain cost control systems, prepare financial analysis reports, conduct variance analysis, generate budgets and forecasts, oversee the month-end close for the cost accounting side, and manage the Inventory Control function.  Strong candidates will be hands-on, able of thriving in a fast-paced work environment, and rely on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.   

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•    Responsible for leading all aspects of the costing and inventory valuation processes

•    Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the cost accounting portion of month-end closing journal entries and reconciliation of related balance sheet accounts. Responsible for preparing financial package for month-end close management meeting, including analysis for inventory and cost of goods sold.

•    Perform analysis of actual manufacturing spending and review of appropriate and accurate manufacturing accruals in accordance with US GAAP.

•    Generate budgets, forecasts, and trend analysis models.

•    Revise standard costs on a yearly basis.

•    Analyze and understand manufacturing processes, objectives, and issues and provide management reporting.

•    Present senior leaders KPI's for business decisions.

•    Provide guidance and analysis to management for capitalization and amortization of inventory and excess and obsolescence impairment calculations.

•    Work collaboratively with the manufacturing team and management to generate and analyze their financial performance, including inventory and cost of goods sold.

•    Support cost improvement initiatives, analyzing various alternatives and implementing new systems as appropriate.

•    Work collaboratively with the manufacturing team to develop cost models.

•    Manage cycle counts of inventory and ensure that internal controls are functioning as designed.

•    Assists in the planning and coordination of physical inventories, investigates variances, review the performance of daily/weekly cycle counts, and performs adjustments as needed.

•    Key contact for annual audit and quarterly reviews. Coordinate and monitor audit deliverables and audit progress.

•    Maintain organized set of detailed records and files to document and support financial transactions.

•    Prepare recommendations or adjustments resulting from the periodic review of manufacturing operations.

•    Produce financial and other ad hoc reports involving the company accounts for management.

•    Establish and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and help troubleshoot finance-related issues.

•    Support the organization in maintaining a work environment focused on quality and that fosters learning, respect, open communication, collaboration, integration, and teamwork.

•    Perform ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned or required.

 

Qualifications and Necessary Experience

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

•    Accounting experience will include a minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience as a cost accountant (manufacturing experience a plus).

•    Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual accounting.

•    Experience with standard cost analysis and development.

•    Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple functional areas in a collaborative, team environment.

•    Computer skills: excellent knowledge of Excel and Word.
